Naxos

In the heart of Aegean, Naxos is the biggest and most fertile island of the Cyclades. Its rich geographical relief has created dramatic changes of scenery. High mountains, fertile valleys, rivers, huge beaches, sand dunes with cedar trees growing on them, all existing harmoniously on this small piece of earth.

Sightseeing and Attractions

The island is full of archaeological finds, of which the most significant are the “Portara” Naxos’ trademark, the archeological museum, the castle, Dionysus’ sanctuary, Demeter’s temple, the museum of Apeiranthos, the Kouro near the village Apollonasand the Kouro in the village Melanes. Moreover, throughout the Naxos you can find historical churches, monasteries and Venetian castles.

Local gastronomy and nightlife

Naxos is an island that will satisfy, in the matters of taste, even the most “difficult” and demanding palate. A multitude of picturesque taverns and restaurants will offer you original, traditional dishes such as the famous potatoes and meats of Naxos, the unrivalled cheeses of Naxos such as graviera, kefalotiri, ksinotiro and the unique local wine.

Local festivals

Festival in villages celebrating local Saints with live music, local delicacies and concerts are common in the island, adding also the well-known celebration of Saint Nicodimus in Chora’s port with the firework display on the 14th of July and the yearly patato festival in Agia Anna.

Beaches

In Naxos there are several of the most beautiful beaches in the Cyclades. Endless white sandy beaches stretching to a length of several kilometers, with water of amazing colors and forests of cedars that start behind the dunes. The wind conditions prevailing in some of these become ideal for windsurfing, kite surfing, yachting, scuba diving and other water sports.
